Message: | He was my gr-gr-grandfather. Gravestone decayed, but looks like aged 49 years when died Oct. 1872 so birth yr = 1923. WPA may have read it as 19 years. He married on 5 Apr 1855 and oldest child was born in 1856, so definitely born before 1853. He was born in 1830 according to 1856 IA and 1860 federal censuses. In 1870, he listed his age as 45, so born 1825. Not sure which is correct year. |
