Message:William was my Great Grandfather. He died as the result of the injuries he sustained in the slate cave-in in July 1916 and died on his birth day July 25, 1916.

Message:Thos did not serve in Union Army. He served in confederate army. The family story is that when the graves at Dillabou were being marked for veterans his wife became very upset and insisted that his grave be marked but the cemetery would not mark a graved as confederate, To satisfy her they marked it "GAR". This caused great confusion in studying his geneology until the record of his captured.

Message:I believe this may well be Mary (Tong) Nowels, first wife of Moses Nowels. I believe the death date is incorrectly transcribed from the old stone and should be 15 July 1863. I don't know the source of the birth date, but there doesn't appear to be one on the stone. So I am taking her birth date as July 3, 1814.

Message:I believe this is my great great uncle. His brother was Calvin who was buried in the GAR at Marshalltown. William died of disease coming home from war on the steamship "Alone" on the upper Missouri river. He was 20.

Message:I added the comment "w/o Michael" as I couldn't confirm that he was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery. I have since found Michael's obit and it states that he was buried in the cemetery. The reason I questioned it was the cemetery had a fire in 1930 that burned all their records. Also there was a brick sized stone saying "Mother" on the burial plot but none saying "Father".

Message:Nelle Davis - correct spelling of her last name is DAVIES - died in Rochester, MN, following surgery. Correct date of her death was 18 Oct 1922. She was a WWI Army nurse in Base Hospital 32 and died from an apparent brain tumor.

Message:I believe that it was the John C. Johnson who is buried at Green Bay who served in the 39th Iowa Infantry. The person who served in the 39th got an invalid pension in 1879 and died in 1881.

Message:John Armstrong Nossaman's wife is Marvana McKee. He has a headstone in Porter Grove Cemetary but the body was never recovered when John drowned in Arkansas River on his journey home from the Civil War.

Message:Dickey was the son of Henry Pomeroy and Mary Millers Pomeroy who immigrated from Buckfastleigh, Devon, England - going 1st to Ohio,where Dickey was born, then to Iowa & finally to Colorado. A note on the death records page in the family Bible states the he “burnt to death.” He was 5 days short of being 5 years old.

Message:The birth date for William McLaughlin, according to record, is 6 June 1772. The death date on his gravestone isn't exact, as an article on Page 3 of the Washington County Press published on Wed 27 Feb 1878, states his death date as 24 Feb 1878. He is buried in Harrisburg Cemetery, Highland Twp, Washington County, on the row farthest to the west.
