Message:Sarah had an elder brother Henry Campbell and Henry, Stephen, John brothers worked for Hugh Haggerty who was captain on one of seven canal boats between Fort Wayne, Indiana - Henry died January 18, 1866 in Fort Wayne poor house - unmarked grave. Stephen in Catoosa Ok John and her sister Elizabeth in Toledo. Was central to this familu unit .

Message:Butler Dunbar served as a Private in Captain John Buckingham’s Company Connecticut Militia in the War of 1812 in both Sanford’s Regiment and Shepard’s Regiment. He received bounty land in Mahaska and Crawford Counties in Iowa for his service.

Message:Micah French was a Soldier in the war of 1812 and served as a Private under Captain Stephen Clarke and Captain Lemuel Pattengill in Stranahan’s 16th Regiment, New York Militia. He was wounded by a musket ball in his left arm at the Battle of Queenstown.

Message:A plaque was added to the marker indicating that Samuel Cole, father of Sebastian, is the 1812 veteran buried at Oakland Cemetery in Corning. Samuel Cole served with the sea fencibles as a Private in Captain John Leonard’s Company 40th US Infantry. He received bounty land in Waushara County, Wisconsin for his service in the War of 1812.

Message:Sarah had three brothers, Henry Campbell who was the oldest born NY and was listed as an idiot, He died in Fort Wayne Poor house in 1866, Stephen T Campbell who died in Catoosa Oklahoma in 1902 not 1901 as I had earlier though and John Campbell who died in Toledo, her sister Elizabeth married in Toledo Ohio and later died there. Stephen T Campbell married Agnes Lane in Guthrie Center Iowa

Message:William E Powers b. 1858 in Wisconsin, d. Feb 1885 Brule Co SD per census mortality index. Living with wife Elizabeth & dau. Effie with in-laws in the 1885 IA census of Ross, Franklin Co IA. Purchased land 1883 in Brule SD which wife sold in 1891 for $1,600. Headstone here for daughter Lenora (1881-1882) named for his mother.

Message:The Black Hawk County, Iowa death certificate for this man has his name as George Maxwell Hughes. Born March 11, 1878 or 79 (looks written over) and Died February 11, 1922. Parents were Ellis Hughes and Virginia Modi. He would not have been born at the time of the War of 1812. It is believed that he may have served in the Spanish American War.

Message:Comfort Bailey was a soldier in the War of 1812 and served as a Private under Captains Whetmore and Miller in the New York Militia. He received bounty land in Wisconsin and Iowa for his service. According to census records in Summit County, Ohio and Black Hawk County, Iowa he was born about 1792 (not 1892) in Connecticut. Inscription on stone shows 85 years at time of death.

Message:Isaac Fisher was a soldier in the War of 1812. He served in Capt. Joshua Cottons Company in the Ohio Militia. The pension records, WO #24237, WC #16658, for his widow, Elizabeth, indicate his death date was 01 Dec 1873 and he died at the hospital in Mount Pleasant, Henry County although his residence was in Wapello County.

Message:Census records in 1860 and 1880 have birthplace as Vermont (not PA). Armed Forces Graves Registration also has Vermont but I have only seen transcribed record, not actual record. Photo of tombstone on the FG site has born in VT.

Message:Based on the date of death, I believe this to be the grave of Loring Loomer (10 Aug 1792 birth date). Loring Loomer was my 3rd Great Grandfather.

Message:History of The Blickensderfer Family in America by Jacob Blickensderfer (1816-1899) states military service for Joseph was 1825-1830 & no mention of 1812. Joseph born abt 1804 in Morrisons Cove, Bedford, PA. Although was a veteran, no proof of 1812 service at the current time. Birthdates are inconsistent across census records and bio in history book.

Message:Found on Ancestory in search for Jacob Carnicle, 1790-1878. Was with son Jacob and family in Clinton County 1870 US Census. Family moved to Lodomillo Township about 1874. 1886 Plat, Sec. 5. Jacob Jr and family are buried in Ross Cemetery.

Message:This was my gg grandfather who served in the Civil War Co. K 30th Iowa infantry. He was transferred to the Invalid Corps due to illness most likely obtained while in the building a canal around Vicksburg.

Message:The widow of the John Jacobson in the 2nd Iowa Infantry applied for a widow's pension in 1890 so it could not be this person. The John Jacobson at Swediah Methodist Cem. did not emigrate until 1868--well after the CW ended.

Message:According to census records, Mr. Miller lived in Poweshiek County in 1860 and throughout the war. He was married in Indiana in 1854. It seems unlikely that he was a Confederate Soldier.
