Message:Patrick McCann is my 2nd great-grandfather. He is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Little Creek, Keokuk County, Iowa. Little Creek is in Liberty Township, not Van Buren Township.

Message:There was no John T. Andrew in the 12th Ohio Infantry and he was a Quaker, so it is highly unlikely that he served in the Civil War.

Message:This is the grave of my gr gr grandmother. Born in Alstead NH 1817. Maiden name was Laura Kidder. Married Luther Hatch in 1838 at Lisle IL and had three sons. Luther died in 1852 and she re-married Benjamin F Morrison (also originally from Alstead NH) in 1856 at Lisle and they moved to Central City. She died in 1879 and Benjamin moved back to his hometown, Alstead NH where he died in 1885.

Message:There was no Robert McCurdy in the 47th Iowa Infantry and neither his bio or obit mention Civil War Service. Neither he nor his widow applied for a pension. The 1895 Iowa census has no indication of service.

Message:I believe this is the burial site of my great, great grandfather James Hughes. Family records birth 1821 in Lycoming Co, PA. Death 1892 in Lodomillo Twp. It likely includes his wife Margaret Stevens Hughes,1828-1903. Daughter Esther Emma 1857-1863. Possibly 2 children that died in infancy. Brithmath in 1869 and Warren in 1870.

Message:His name was Amos Cheney and he served in the 87th New York Infantry. His military stone has the name misspelled as Cheeney. It was a different Amos Cheney who served in the 11th Iowa Infantry. He is buried at Millersburg in Iowa County.

Message:Thanks for letting us know. After reviewing the WPA record, the reference to "wife" was crossed out and something written in to the left of that which is too faint to read, but likely said "mother".

Message:Robert Slaght was my GGgrandfather, but Clarinda who died in 1862 at age 61 was his mother not his wife. His wife was Lydia Ballard Slaght.

Message:He was my gr-gr-grandfather. Gravestone decayed, but looks like aged 49 years when died Oct. 1872 so birth yr = 1923. WPA may have read it as 19 years. He married on 5 Apr 1855 and oldest child was born in 1856, so definitely born before 1853. He was born in 1830 according to 1856 IA and 1860 federal censuses. In 1870, he listed his age as 45, so born 1825. Not sure which is correct year.

Message:The regiment on his military headstone is incoorect. There was no one by that name in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry. He served in the 96th Illiniois Infantry.. See pension cards on FAG.

Message:Thanks for letting us know of this. The original WPA record incorrectly listed what turns out to be birth year as 1938 rather than 1838. Nor did it make it clear which date was birth or death. This has been corrected.

Message:Nancy Lunica Dalton was born in 1809 in Madison County, Kentucky, the daughter of Naham Isham Dalton and Elizabeth Thompson (Walton) Dalton. She married Elias Epperson in 1824 in Kentucky; he died in 1854 in Pottawattamie County, IA. and is buried in Honey Creek. She then married David Deffibaugh in 1858.

Message:Her daughter Helen DeEtta Beatty Hawkey is also buried near her. DeEtta passed a week following the birth of her daughter Helen. She had two other children, Milton and Grace. Her husband Hugh Isaac Beatty remarried years later

Message:William Henry Emery is the same person as Henry Emery with unknown burial place. The gravestone has the wrong year of death. His Iowa death certificate has 1907. He is at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Missouri Valley. He is also listed in WPA records as Henry Emery.
