Our Mission

The mission of the Iowa WPA Graves Registration Online Project was to transcribe the 1930's graves survey of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Works Project Administration with the purpose of compiling an extensive statewide database that could be used to do genealogical surname searches throughout the state of Iowa.

The web site became a reality on March 1, 2005. Just 13 months later, the huge task was completed thanks to the help of scores of volunteers, all of whom were looking for a way to "give something back" to the genealogical community. Researchers for decades to come will be using this free online database time and time again to assist in the quest for more knowledge of our Iowa Pioneers.
