In 1860 she was living with the John Smith Brockway family in Lake County, Illinois, working as their servant. On 13 Nov 1860 she married Mason L. Brockway (son of her former employer) in Lake County, Illinois. They moved to Kankakee County, Illinois and later on to Muscatine County, Iowa. Mary and Mason had four children: George Brockway (Dec 1863 - <after 1930>), Minnie [Brockway] Williams (Dec 1871 - 1923), James Maine Brockway (May 1875 - 1943) and Lewis A.
